OFFICIAL: Sergi Domínguez Signs for Dinamo Zagreb

Dinamo Zagreb and FC Barcelona confirmed on Monday the transfer of 20-year-old defender Sergi Domínguez, a product of La Masia, in a deal worth an initial €1.2 million. The Catalan club will also retain a sell-on clause for any future transfer.

Domínguez, who made six first-team appearances under Hansi Flick last season, joins the Croatian giants a decade after Dani Olmo chose the same path—a move that eventually led him back to Barça as an established star.

From La Masia to Zagreb

Domínguez began his football journey at Sant Gabriel before joining Barça’s famed academy in 2017. Rising through the ranks, he became a key figure for Barça Atlètic, even captaining the reserve side. Primarily a center-back but versatile enough to play full-back, he extended his contract with Barça until 2027 just two months ago.

Despite his potential, the club has sanctioned his departure, allowing him to seek regular playing time at a club known for developing young talent.

Olmo’s Influence and Domínguez’s Ambitions

Upon signing, Domínguez revealed that former Dinamo star and current Barça midfielder Dani Olmo played a crucial role in his decision.

«Dani Olmo told me a lot about the club and the city, so I have high expectations,» Domínguez said in his first interview as a Dinamo player. «I’m excited to be here. Dinamo is a title-winning club, and that’s why I came. I want to keep growing, and this is the perfect place for a young player like me.»

Dinamo wasted no time in unveiling their new signing, releasing images of Domínguez donning the number 36 jersey.

Barça’s Ongoing Business with Dinamo

The deal comes amid ongoing negotiations between Barça and Dinamo for 16-year-old Portuguese winger Cardoso Varela, a highly rated prospect on the Catalan club’s radar.

With Domínguez’s move now complete, all eyes will be on whether he can emulate Olmo’s success—using Dinamo as a springboard to greater heights.
